Have I told you lately how much I appreciate your community here? :)

Back in the day when IG used to be all about hashtags, I would get lost for hours just researching keywords. That was my absolute jam! I've very recently implemented Pinterest as I have no desire to return to IG so I want to implement something that is a lot slower but still uses my creativity. I love creating pins, turns out!

Another thing on my plate for this year is creating a website and the idea behind it is to start posting some evergreen blog posts on there and then pin them. Simplicity seems to be the driving force for me. I want to be visible but not in a way that forces me to constantly be on a platform. I've had a guiding phrase for the last couple of years, a slow creative life, and it seems something has shifted lately where I am actually taking tangible steps to create that for myself. Thank you for the part you play in it!

My ex partner who has been a holistic health practitioner for 20 + years has never had a website, has never been active on social media, never has had a business card, never attends networking functions, and has never advertised. Yet she has a booming client practice in San Diego.

Her secret? Focusing solely on being a world class, master of her craft which leads to a tsunami of client referrals for her.

I am so excited for you and to hear your success without social! SEO is my favorite marketing tactic, but I’ve also found success with guest blogging and podcast interviews, and they help improve SEO performance too. I spent almost 8 years building a robust organic search program for an online travel agency that continues to bring in several million views from search A MONTH. People say SEO is dead, and, yes, it is harder, but it can and does work for the businesses willing to invest in it.

And you did a fab session for inside the Connected Artist membership and as a result many artists are now here using Substack. Pinterest is the one for me .... it’s not always traceable unless you are good with particular funnels and landing pages, but I’m ok with the slow build. And I often hear “I think i first found you on Pinterest” from buyers and other artists.

It's so reassuring hearing how your clients find you, and to take some pressure off of social media!

I love this, Astrid. While I enjoy using social media, the digital landscape has changed so much and the effort we need to put in to get a return feels, well, pointless. It doesn’t add up so we need to diversify. I miss the old days when we could be more playful, so I’m bringing that vibe back to my use of Instagram in particular.

Hello, and first of all, thank you 🙏🏼 I have a question regarding Pinterest, do you need a pro account and all that stuff where you cross-pin with others account ?

This is such a great post because there really are so many ways to be discovered. What I find interesting though is that you don't consider Substack to be social media? I think Substack is totally a social media platform, certainly since the introduction of Notes which is basically their version of Twitter. It's just a much nicer social media platform without ads and weird algorithms, and I am a big fan of how intuitively Substack is designed.

I think what you demonstrate is the importance of using platforms and marketing methods that we enjoy working with, and that feel aligned with our values and energy levels. Whenever someone wonders about Subtack I send them your way :)

It’s so funny that even though I’ve been on IG for YEARS, it’s never really been a place where clients have found me. Until the last few months. Since Dec I’ve had a handful of client inquiries come that way.

But for now I’ve taken a break from there and just left a static 9 image grid in my feed.

Last year I decided to focus my marketing efforts on things that have more longevity so I’ve been putting more effort into my newsletter (and moved it here) I also launched a podcast. Though those efforts have not brought in new clients yet I do believe it will come if I can be consistent.

I’m also putting more effort into SEO and will add more fresh content to my website this year + I’m about to try out a focus Pinterest using a VA to do the pinning, a few hours/ month.

Finally I’m going to continue with more local outreach as that is pretty much what has yielded best results over the years that I’ve been in business.
