Which business books are on your shelves?
Tell me your favourites, struggles and ones you're looking forward to (and I share mine)
One of the big joys of the past year for me has been being part of a small business bookclub with three business friends. I love getting together with these women to chat about business and life, and reading the same book gives us an additional incentive.
Another reason I love this mini bookclub is because I am remarkably bad at finishing business books. If you know me, you’ll know that I read a lot (see this year’s not quite up-to-date list here). And when it comes to fiction especially, I finish pretty much every book I start. I can’t even remember the last time I didn’t finish a novel.
But business books? I just run out of steam. And there are so many business books out there that are the complete opposite of the way I want to run my business. There’s so much out there about the hustle, about getting rich quick, about pushing through.
Yet being part of the business bookclub, and especially the approach that my friend Ruth takes to reading business books, has helped me be more open to a wider variety of books. Yes, I may feel uncomfortable about the style of some of the books or they might be too hustle-y to me, but there can still be value in them.
For this month’s thread, I’d love to hear from you: which business books are on your shelves? I’d love to know your favourites, as well as the ones you struggled with and the ones you’re looking forward to.
I’ll be sharing my own list below to get us started. 📚
