The thing I've been working on for months is finally here!
Introducing: Substack for small business owners, freelancers and artists
I’m popping into your inbox today to share my excitement about something I’ve been working on for a while: my evergreen mini-course Substack for small business owners, freelancers and artists. I’ve been working on the course for months and have poured all my enthusiasm, knowledge and teaching skills into it—I’m so excited to be putting it out in the world!
This course is a gentle, effective, anti-overwhelm approach to making Substack work for you.
Pretty much every week someone says to me: “I’d love to move my newsletter to Substack, but I don’t know how to go about it”, or “I’ve created a Substack account, even chose a publication name, but I have no idea how to continue”.
I love having these conversations! I’ve now poured all of that enthusiasm as well as 9+ months of research and my own experience into a new, evergreen, mini-course: Substack for small business owners, freelancers and artists.
I believe that Substack holds great potential for small business owners like me (and, like you!). Substack offers an algorithm-free environment in which you can foster true connection with the people who want to hear from you, in which you can build community and discover like-minded people. In a world dominated by social media, this is like a breath of fresh air.
Personally, I love what Substack has meant for my small business. One of my key business values is community, and one of the reasons why I moved my newsletter from Flodesk to Substack is because I wanted more connection and more community with you, my newsletter subscribers. Over the past six months, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the conversations that I’ve had, and that you’ve been having with each other, in the comments to posts and in discussion threads. I’ve loved discovering new newsletters through you. And I’m so grateful to those of you who made the transition to paid subscriptions: these subscriptions are now a growing income stream in my business and another way in which I support you in your work.
My business and my newsletter list are growing in the best and gentlest way possible since I joined Substack and I want the same for you.
Why take the mini-course?
You’re curious about Substack and want to try it out, but don’t know where to start.
You’re tired of social media and are looking for a different platform to market your business through.
You’re overwhelmed by the idea of starting your Substack, about all the options and by all the other Substack publications out there.
You’ve got an existing Substack publication but want to do more with it. You’re curious about how other people use their Substacks in their businesses, and perhaps you’d even want to set up paid subscriptions.
I’ve created this course to be really valuable and packed full of examples, strategies and best practices. And I’ve created it to be anti-overwhelm, to be gentle and allow you to take it slow. I won’t tell you want to do—instead I’ll be showing you examples of things that have worked for me and others so you can decide what you want to do.
“Your materials are brilliant and very meaningful. You have helped me to take some important steps to this week, and there’ll be more to come. I can already feel the difference and I can’t wait to start putting your advice into action!” — Natalie Warner
Practicalities
The course consists of three parts:
introduction: examples and case studies of writers, small business owners, freelancers and artists using Substack for their business;
setting up Substack: how to set up; adding design elements; how to write a good about-page and welcome email; how to make the move from an existing newsletter platform;
writing, sharing and growing: deciding on a routine; sharing your Substack (primarily off social media); growing your newsletter community; options for going paid.
Each of these parts consists of a 30 to 40-minute video and is accompanied by worksheets in which I’ve collected questions, links, resources, templates and checklists.
The course is evergreen and once purchased you access it through Podia, where you can rewatch the videos as often as you like, or pause and pick up where you left off later.
contents | 3 videos of 30-40 mins + worksheets with resources, links + templates
price | celebration price: €29 until June 7th; afterwards €35
